What is a dihybrid cross used to show?
Inheritance of 2 diff characteristics, caused by 2 genes, which may be located on diff pairs of homologous chromosomes
Each of these genes can have 2 or more alleles
Example

What is the expected ratio of a double heterozygous cross? (e.g. YyRr, YyRr)?
9:3:3:1
Why can the actual ratio of offspring be different to the phenotypic ratio?
Fertilisation of gametes is a random process so in a small sample a few chance events can lead to a skewed ratio.
The genes being studied are both on the same chromosome AKA linked genes.
If no crossing over occurs the alleles for the two characteristics will always be inherited together.
