“Iron curtain”
A divide between Western Europe and Eastern Europe during the Cold war, popularized by Winston Churchill.
Truman Doctrine
A US policy to contain communism by giving aid to countries affected by it especially Greece and Turkey.
Greek Civil War
War between the Greek government (backed by Britain and the US) against the communist Greek Party. Influenced the development of the Truman doctrine.
Marshall Plan
A US program where they gave economic aid to rebuild Western Europe after WWII.
COMECON
An organization created by the Soviet Union as a response to the Marshall plan to control the economies of Eastern Europe.
Berlin Blockade
An attempt by the Soviet Union to cut off West Berlin during the Cold War.
Berlin airlift
An US operation to give resources to West Berlin after the Berlin Blockade blocked land access.
