ROCK CYCLE LIST ALL
Sedimentary rock
Sedimentary rocks are formed when pieces of rocks, minerals, and organic matter settle into layers and are pressed together over long periods (examples: shale, limestone)
Igenous rocks
Igneous rocks are formed when molten rock (magma or lava) cools and solidifies. There are two main types based on how they form: intrusive (cooled slowly underground, resulting in large crystals) and extrusive (cooled quickly on the Earth's surface, resulting in small crystals) (granite, basalt).
Metamorphic rocks
Metamorphic rocks are preexisting rocks (like igneous or sedimentary rocks) that have transformed into new, harder rocks due to extreme heat and pressure deep within the Earth (e.g marble, slate).
