adjacent arcs
Arcs in a circle that have exactly one point in common.
arc
Part of a circle that is defined by two endpoints.
arc length
The distance between the endpoints of an arc measured along the arc in linear units.
center of a circle
The point from which all points on a circle are the same distance.
central angle of a circle
An angle with a vertex at the center of a circle and sides that are radii.
chord of a circle
A segment with endpoints on the circle.
circle
The set of all points in a plane that are the same distance from a given point called the center.
circumscribed angle
An angle with sides that are tangent to a circle.
circumscribed polygon
A polygon with vertices outside the circle and sides that are tangent to the circle.
common tangent
A line or segment that is tangent to two circles in the same plane.
concentric circles
Coplanar circles that have the same center.
congruent arcs
Arcs in the same or congruent circles that have the same measure.
degree
1/360 of the circular rotation about a point.
diameter of a circle
A chord that passes through the center of a circle.
inscribed angle
An angle with its vertex on a circle and sides that contain chords of the circle.
inscribed polygon
A polygon inside a circle in which all of the vertices of the polygon lie on the circle.
intercepted arc
The part of a circle that lies between the two lines intersecting it.
major arc
An arc with measure greater than 180°.
minor arc
An arc with measure less than 180°.
pi
The ratio circumference/diameter
point of tangency
For a line that intersects a circle in one point, the point at which they intersect.
radian
A unit of angular measurement equal to 180∘π or about 57.296°.
radius of a circle
A line segment from the center to a point on a circle
secant
Any line or ray that intersects a circle in exactly two points.
semicircle
An arc that measures exactly 180°.
tangent to a circle
A line or segment in the plane of a circle that intersects the circle in exactly one point and does not contain any points in the interior of the circle.
