Informed Consent
A process to ensure that a patient fully understands the nature of proposed treatment, including risks and benefits.
Mature Minor
A legal status that allows minors who demonstrate understanding of treatment details to consent to or refuse treatment.
Antalgic Gait
A limp adopted to avoid pain on weight-bearing structures.
PEACE & LOVE Principles
A framework for managing acute injuries that includes Protection, Elevation, Avoidance of aggravating activities, Compression, and Education on active loading, Optimism, Ice, and other supportive factors.
Range of Motion (ROM)
The degree of movement reported in terms of flexion, extension, and other movements, important for assessing joint function.
Osteophyte Formation
Bone spurs that form on the edges of bones, often associated with arthritis.
Compartment Syndrome
A condition that occurs when there is increased pressure within a muscle compartment that can lead to muscle and nerve damage.
Total Hip Replacement (THR)
A surgical procedure to replace a damaged hip joint with a prosthetic.
Deep Breathing Exercises
Techniques that improve ventilation and oxygenation, useful especially post-operatively.
Gait Training
Therapeutic intervention aimed at improving the patient's ability to walk.
Modalities
Various physical agents, such as heat, cold, or ultrasound, used to promote healing.
Comorbidities
The presence of two or more diseases or medical conditions in a patient.
