What is a server?
"A server is a computer that provides services or resources to other computers over a network."
What is RAM?
"RAM is short-term memory used to store active data for quick access by the CPU."
What does a CPU do?
"The CPU processes instructions and performs calculations for the system."
Difference between SSD and HDD?
"SSD is faster with no moving parts, while
HDD is slower and uses spinning disks."
What is an IP address?
"An IP address is a unique identifier assigned to a device on a network."
What is a switch?
"A switch connects devices within a network and allows them to communicate."
What is a router?
"A router connects a network to the internet and directs traffic."
What is troubleshooting?
"A step-by-step process to identify and fix issues, starting with simple checks."
Server won't turn on — what do you do?
"I would start by checking power connections, then verify the power supply, check internal connections, and escalate if needed."
No network connection — what do you do?
"I would check the Ethernet connection, verify switch/router functionality, check IP configuration, and restart if needed."
Computer is very slow — what do you do?
"I would check RAM and CPU usage, then evaluate storage and background processes."
System has power but no display
"I would check the monitor and cables, then inspect RAM and internal components."
Server keeps shutting down
"I would check power stability, then overheating, then hardware issues."
User cannot access a server
"I would check network connectivity, verify the server is running, and check access permissions."
A cable was unplugged in a rack - what do you do?
"I would verify the correct connection, follow documentation, reconnect properly, and confirm system functionality."
Q1: "Why do you want this role?"
"I'm interested in building a career in IT and gaining hands-on experience with hardware and data center operations. I enjoy troubleshooting and understanding how systems work, and this role is a great opportunity to grow in that environment."
Q2: "Tell me about a time you solved a problem"
"I encountered a situation where I had to solve an issue under pressure. I stayed calm, identified the problem, and worked step-by-step to resolve it. I made sure the issue was fully fixed before moving on."
Q3: "Server won't turn on — what do you do?"
"I would start by checking power connections and ensuring the system is receiving power.
Then I'd verify the power supply is functioning, followed by checking internal connections. If needed, I would escalate."
Q4: "No network connection - what do you do?"
"I would check the physical connection first, like the Ethernet cable. Then I'd verify network devices such as the switch or router, and check IP contiguration. It unresolved, I would escalate."
"Tell me about a mistake"
"I made a mistake by not double-checking something before completing a task. Since then, I've made it a habit to review my work carefully to avoid errors."
"How do you handle pressure?"
"I stay calm, prioritize tasks, and focus on solving one problem at a time while following the correct steps."
Q1: Tell me about yourself
I’m someone who’s very interested in IT and hands-on technical work. I’ve been learning about computer hardware, troubleshooting, and how systems operate. I enjoy solving problems step-by-step and understanding how things work. I’m looking for an opportunity like this to gain real experience and grow in a data center environment.
