What is Dementia?
An umbrella term for progressive neurological conditions that affect memory, thinking, behaviour and the ability ro perform everyday activities
Symptoms of dementia:
Memory loss
Confusion/disorientation
Difficulty with communication
Changes in mood/behaviour
Reduced ability to manage daily tasks
Support/treatment for dementia:
GP referral and memory assessment services
Brain scans
Medication to slow progression
Adaptions to home environment for safety
Heart disease
Becomes more common with age due to narrowing or blockage of cornary arteries. Risk factors Inc; smoking, poor diet, inactivity and high blood pressure
