What can long term stress do to you?
Chronic stress may lead to insomnia, high blood pressure, burnout
What can stress do in the short term?
Stress can be motivating
Anxiety disorders
Excessive worry that infers with daily life
What are symptoms of Anxiety disorders?
Panic attacks, restlessness, rapid heart rate
Depression
A mood disorder characterised by persistent low mood, loss of interest, fatigue, changed in appetite and sometimes suicidal thoughts
Inactivity
not meeting the recommended levels of physical activity required for good health, often characterized by a lifestyle with very little or no exercise
Lack of exercise can cause increased risk of:
Obesity
Type 2 diabetes
Hypertension
Stroke
Cardiovascular disease
What is Dementia?
An umbrella term for progressive neurological conditions that affect memory, thinking, behaviour and the ability ro perform everyday activities
Symptoms of dementia:
Memory loss
Confusion/disorientation
Difficulty with communication
Changes in mood/behaviour
Reduced ability to manage daily tasks
Support/treatment for dementia:
GP referral and memory assessment services
Brain scans
Medication to slow progression
Adaptions to home environment for safety
Heart disease
Becomes more common with age due to narrowing or blockage of cornary arteries. Risk factors Inc; smoking, poor diet, inactivity and high blood pressure
What is Osteoporosis?
Systematic skeletal disease characterised by low bone mass, Micro-architectural deterioration of the bone
What is Osteoarthritis?
Type of degenerative joint disease that results from breakdown of joint cartilage and underlying bone
