The patella is the biggest of what type of bones?
Sesamoid bone
All sesamoid bones develop within a tendon, Which tendon is the patella embedded in?
Quadriceps tendon
How does the patella provide a mechanical advantage to the quadriceps?
Increases leverage by moving th etendon further away from the joints axis of rotation

Label the main landmarks of the patella

What other bones does the tibia articulate with and how?
Articulates with the femur superiorly, the fibula laterally and the calcaneous inferiorly.
What connects the fibula and tibia?
Interosseous membrane
What are the tibial landmarks?
Tibial plateau - Flat surface on the superior aspect of the tibia
Medial and lateral condyles - Proximal end of the tibia they articulate with the femur. The lateral is bigger and more prominent
Intercondylar eminence/areas - Raised areas in between the medial and lateral condyles
Tibial tuberosity - bony prominence on the anterior aspect of the proximal end of the tibia. Attaches to patella ligament and qudriceps femoris tendon
Medial malleolus - a strong pyramidal bony projection on the distal end of the tibia
What are the fibula landmarks
Head of the fibula - most proximal end of the bon earticulating with the tibia
Neck of the fibula
Lateral malleolus - strong pyramidal bony projection on the distal end of the fibula
