Urbanization

Level of Urbanization
Proportion of people living in urban areas relative to the total population at a given time.
Urban Growth
The population growth rate specifically in urban areas.
Suburbanization
Expansion of the city, primarily of residential areas spreading into the countryside.
Urban Sprawl
Unplanned and uncontrolled spreading of urban development into areas adjacent to the city.
Urbanism
Conditions of life associated with living in cities, encompassing changes in values, customs, and behaviors of the urban population.
Push Factor
Conditions in rural areas that force individuals to migrate to urban areas, such as lack of income opportunities and armed conflicts.
Pull Factor
Characteristics of urban areas that attract individuals from rural parts, such as job opportunities and higher quality of life.
Highly Urbanized City (HUC)
A city with a minimum population of 200,000 and annual income of at least P50 million.
Independent Component City
A city whose charter prohibits voters from electing provincial officials, thus independent of the province.
Economic Rent
The difference in income between the employment of two equal quantities of capital and labor; the payment exceeding the necessary costs to stay in business.

A model by Ernest Burgess proposing that cities develop in rings around a central business district.
Central Place Theory
Theory proposed by Walter Christaller analyzing the size and distribution of cities, which act as 'central places' providing services to surrounding areas.
Growth Pole Theory
