prep

• gather clean materials on overbed table

• untuck the top sheet from the foot of the bed

procedure

• turn pt on side

• untuck half the corners of the dirty fitted sheet

• take clean fitted sheet and put on new corners

• tuck the clean fitted sheet underneath the dirty sheet

• move both sheets far to the other side under patient

• have patient lay down while holding top sheet so they don’t get tangled

• have pt flip to the other side

• finish removing the dirty sheet and secure the new clean sheet

• have patient lay back down and reposition themselves

• put dirty fitted sheet in hamper

• take dirty top sheet and fold it over the resident’s feet

• tuck the clean top sheet under the foot of the mattress — make hospital corners

• slowly fold up dirty sheet and replace clean sheet

• place dirty top sheet in hamper

• lift patient’s head to remove pillow and set back down

• remove pillow case and put pillow on table — dispose of case

• put the tag side down in case

• put pillow behind head

clean up

smooth out bed ensuring hospital corners, put table back, wash hands, closing

• lift blanket and see if pt can wiggle feet
