13th Amendment:

act that abolished slavery throughout the country

14th Amendment:

act that granted birthright citizenship and equal protection under the law

15th Amendment:

act that gave black men the right to vote and said that states couldnt deny anyone the right to vote based on race

Civil Rights Act of 1875:

first law that attempted to protect the rights of african americans

• punishiment for anyone who dnied blacks of full and equal use of public facilities

  • lacked proper enforcement

• later overturned in 1883

Chinese Exclusion Act:

first act that limited immigration based on nationality

• banned chinee laborrs from enetering and gaining citzenship in the us

• used violence, intimidation and lynching to control and suppress blacks

a highly controversial and racist film that portrayed blacks negatively and glorified the KKK

these were fees that the south placed on voting that was used to disenfranchise black people
