What MRI sequences are commonly used?
T1, T2, Proton Density (PD), T2 STIR/FS, DWI, SWI
What are the signal characteristics of fluid and fat on T1?
Fluid is dark (hypointense), fat is bright (hyperintense)
What are the signal characteristics of fluid and fat on T2?
Both fluid and fat are bright (hyperintense)
What are the signal characteristics on Proton Density imaging?
Fat is bright (slightly darker than T1), fluid is bright (slightly darker than T2), tendons/ligaments/cartilage are dark
What are the signal characteristics on T2 STIR/fat sat?
Fluid is bright (hyperintense), fat is dark (hypointense — signal is nulled)
What is diffusion weighted imaging (DWI) based on?
Brownian motion — the movement of molecules

This patient has had a Small Bowel MRI, which involves drinking a fluid called Mannitol. What sequence is shown here?
T2 Coronal
