Publishing a Website
This process includes building and uploading websites, updating the associated webpages, and posting content to these webpages online
URL
A location or address identifying where documents can be found on the Internet; a Web address.
Domain name
Text version of an IP address.
Host computer
Computer that stores web page files and
sends them via the Internet, upon user request. Also known as web server.
Protocol
A set of rules governing the exchange or transmission of data between devices.
Orphan web page
A page on a website that is not linked to any other page on the site.
File path
The route through a file system to a particular file.
Filename
The name you give a document.
IP address
A unique string of numbers separated by periods that identifies each computer using the Internet Protocol to communicate over a network.
Webserver
Acomputer that delivers requested webpages to your computer or mobile device.
Webpage Header
The consistent area at the top of every page on the websitethe site.
Webpage footer
The consistent content area at the bottom of every page of your website
Webpage sidebar
An area of the website used to display information that's not part of the page's main content.
Body of a webpage
The area of the website that contains the most content.
Cascading Style Sheets
Allow you to specify styles for various Web page elements.
Navigational menu
This is part of the header and includes the links that take visitors to other major parts of your website.
Breadcrumbs
A trail or pathway a user follows to nnavigate their location in a website.
Website logo
A symbol used forr identifying the website brand.
Call to Action (CTA)
A phrase written to motivate the reader to take action.
Social links
A way for users to connect with each other, such as "follow" on Twitter and "friend" on Facebook.
