What is photosynthesis?
The reaction plants use to trap light energy and convert it into food (glucose).
Is photosynthesis endothermic or exothermic?
Endothermic — it takes in energy.
Where does photosynthesis take place?
In the leaves of a plant.
What is chlorophyll?
The green chemical in leaves that absorbs light energy.
What are the reactants of photosynthesis?
Carbon dioxide and water.
What are the products of photosynthesis?
Glucose and oxygen.
What is the word equation for photosynthesis?
Carbon dioxide + water ➡ glucose + oxygen
What is the chemical formula for glucose?
C6H12O6
What is the chemical formula for carbon dioxide?
CO2
What is the chemical formula for water?
H2O
What is a limiting factor?
Something that is in short supply and is slowing down the rate of photosynthesis.
How does light intensity affect photosynthesis?
More light = faster rate. If rate increases when light increases, light was limiting factor
What happens when light intensity stops increasing the rate?
Something else becomes the limiting factor e.g. CO2 level.
How does CO2 level affect photosynthesis?
More CO2 = faster rate. If rate increases when CO2 increases, co2 was limiting factor
How does chlorophyll amount affect photosynthesis?
Less chlorophyll = less light absorbed = lower rate of photosynthesis
How does temperature affect photosynthesis?
Higher temp = faster rate. But if too high enzymes denature and rate decreases
What are the 4 limiting factors of photosynthesis?
Light intensity, CO2 concentration, Chlorophyll concentration, Temperature
