Doctrine of Lapse

Introduced by Lord Dalhousie ( 1848 - 1856 )

No real heir of the state( dependent on british ) - would now merge in British india . Means the adopted heir would not inherit the throne

This policy - expanded British empire to its maximum. Thus Dalhousie ( known as “ maker of modern india “ )
