Urinary Tract Infection
microbial infection of any part of the urinary tract; may have pus casts, alkaline urine
Polycystic kidney disease
a genetic disorder characterized by the growth of numerous fluid-filled cysts in the kidneys
Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD)
kidneys are damaged and can't filter blood the way they should. The main risk factors for developing kidney disease are diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, and a family history of kidney failure.
Incontinence
inability to control urination
Dialysis
a procedure to remove waste products from the blood of patients whose kidneys no longer function
Glomerulonephritis
inflammation of the glomeruli within the kidney; red blood cell casts are indicative
Hyperglycemia
excessive sugar in the blood (often a hallmark of diabetes)
Lithotripsy
treats kidney stones by sending focused ultrasonic energy or shock waves directly to the stone first located with fluoroscopy
Anuria
absence of urine production (less than 100 mL/day)
Urochrome
pigment that results from the body's destruction of hemoglobin (responsible for urine color)
Proteinuria
protein in the urine (Biuret's test +)
Pyuria
presence of pus in the urine; indicator of UTI
Renal calculi
stones in the kidney ("little stones")

radiographic image of the urinary tract
