How to apply a splint?

1. Identify location of fracture, keeping area stabilized

2. Check distal (further away from fracture) pulse and capillary refill (color returning to pressed nail bed)

3. Align splint with limb to maintain a straight resting position

4. Ensure joints above and below fracture are immobilized

5. Recheck distal pulse

6. Administer Combat Wound Medication Pack (CWMP) as needed and antibiotics for open fractures
