The Democratic nominee for the presidency in the election of 1968. He was LBJ's vice president, and was supportive of his Vietnam policies. The Chicago democratic national convention was ruined by violence that year. His support split the Democratic party, allowing Nixon to win the election for the Republicans. Paris Peace Agreement

Ends the Vietnam War - 1773 An agreement between the government of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, the Provisional Revolutionary Government of the Republic of South Vietnam, the Republic of Vietnam, and the United States to bring an end to the Vietnam War. In addition, the United States agreed to the withdrawal of all U.S. troops and advisors and the dismantling of all U.S. bases within 60 days. In return, the North Vietnamese agreed to release all U.S. and other prisoners of war. Treaty that ends the Vietnam War.
