Law of Conservation of Angular Momentum
In the same way how if no forces act on a system then we have the conservation of LINEAR momentum, so too do we have angular momentum conservation if there is NO external torque.
Recall that the change in angular momentum is equal to torque, so if the torque is 0, then the CHANGE in angular momentum is 0 as well.
In other words, if the angular momentum is constant, then we can apply the law of conservation of angular momentum.
