Severe deficiency or inhibition of ADAMTS13
Thrombotic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (TTP / Moschcowitz Syndrome)
Classic Triad of Microangiopathic Hemolytic Anemia (MAHA), Thrombocytopenia, and Neurologic abnormalities. Can progress to a Pentad with Fever and Renal dysfunction.
Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome (HUS)
Endothelial damage triggered by Shigella dysenteriae toxin or Enterohemorrhagic E. coli
Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome (HUS)
Mild thrombocytopenia, mild anemia, acute renal injury, typically presenting in children following acute diarrheal illness.
Disseminated Intravascular Coagulation (DIC / Consumptive Coagulopathy)
Unchecked activation of the entire coagulation cascade. Platelets become trapped within systemic intravascular fibrin clots
Disseminated Intravascular Coagulation (DIC / Consumptive Coagulopathy)
Elevated D-dimer, prolonged PT & aPTT, and decreased Fibrinogen (distinguishing it starkly from TTP/HUS)
