Butsch (2003)-  WC often portrayed as stupid, irresponsible or a source of trouble linked to crime and benefit scrounges or lone parenthood

media creates an underclass- seen as white trash or chavs e.g in benefit street

Glasgow media group- 54% of journalists are still privately educated- which means the news reflects the interest and opinions of the UC and views the MC primary defines such as police chiefs or business owners will be priotised in the news rather than ordinary working people
