What is the hospitality industry?
Establishments that provide accommodation and food services for people when they are away from their homes

What is a guest house?
Existing home or purpose-built building with public areas for exclusive use of guests (family does NOT share spaces)
What is a Bed & Breakfast (B&B)?
Family home where owner lives on property, provides accommodation and breakfast (family shares spaces)
What is self-catering accommodation?
House, cottage, chalet, apartment where guests cater for themselves
What is backpacker/hostel accommodation?
Provides communal facilities and dormitories for transient guests
What is a caravan and camping park?
Provides ablution amenities and space for guests to bring their own tent, caravan, or motor home
What is Airbnb?
Online platform matching home owners with travellers to share rooms or houses
What is an all-inclusive resort?
Charges one price that includes lodging, activities, and most or all meals
What is an all-suite hotel?
All rooms are suites with at least two rooms (bedroom + living room)
What is a boutique hotel?
Small-scale, one-of-a-kind lodging with stylistic uniqueness and high service standards
What is a timeshare?
Apartment-like lodging where owners purchase the right to use it for a specific time each year
What is a motel?
Motor inn offering inexpensive lodging for passing motorists; parking near rooms
What is serviced accommodation?
Provides rooms plus staff-provided services like housekeeping and food & beverage

What is totally independent?
No chain affiliations; owner makes all decisions from scratch
What is the American Plan?
Rates include ALL meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner)
What is the Continental Plan?
Room rate includes light breakfast (pastries, rolls, toast, beverages)
What is the European Plan?
Room rate includes NO meals
What is the Modified American Plan?
Rates include TWO meals (usually breakfast and dinner)
What is the Bermuda Plan?
Also called Bed & Breakfast; includes breakfast only
