Effective communication
The clear and appropriate exchange of ideas, feelings, and information using spoken, written, and multimodal forms.
Personal language
Language used to express one’s own thoughts, feelings, and experiences, often including first-person pronouns like "I" or "my" and focusing on the speaker’s inner world.
Interpersonal language
Language used for social interaction that involves greetings, polite expressions, questions, and responses to help build relationships or complete tasks together.
Tone of Language
The emotional quality or attitude conveyed in communication that can affect how a message is interpreted based on word choice, pitch, and context.
Formal Tone
An emotional quality in communication characterized by professional expressions, such as "I would like to express my gratitude for your assistance."
Informal Tone
A casual style of communication using phrases like "Hey, thanks for helping me out!"
Friendly Tone
A warm and welcoming emotional quality, for example: "I’m so happy to see you! How’ve you been?"
Serious Tone
A grave or urgent attitude in communication, such as "This is a critical issue that requires immediate attention."
Personal Context
A communication setting that focuses on personal thoughts, emotions, and experiences, usually characterized as informal and subjective.
Interpersonal Context
A communication setting used in formal or relationship-based interactions that is more structured and polite.
