Depressive Disorders
A category of mood disorders characterized by pervasive feelings of sadness, hopelessness, and a loss of interest in activities.
Major Depressive Disorder (MDD)
A type of depression characterized by persistent low mood, anhedonia, and other symptoms for at least two weeks.
Persistent Depressive Disorder (P-DD)
A chronic form of depression where symptoms persist for at least one year, characterized by a depressed or irritable mood.
Dysthymia
An older term for persistent depressive disorder (P-DD), referring to long-lasting mild depression.
Disruptive Mood Dysregulation Disorder (DMDD)
A mood disorder in children marked by chronic, severe irritability and temper outbursts.
Anhedonia
The inability to experience pleasure from activities usually found enjoyable.
Irritability
A common symptom in mood disorders, characterized by heightened sensitivity and frequent anger.
Bipolar Disorder (BP)
A mental health condition that causes extreme mood swings, including emotional highs (mania or hypomania) and lows (depression).
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
A psychotherapy used to treat depression by helping patients change negative thought patterns and behaviors.
Negative Cognitive Triad
A cognitive theory that describes the tendency of depressed individuals to have negative views about themselves, their world, and their future.
Comorbidity
The presence of one or more additional disorders co-occurring with a primary disorder.
Cognitive Distortions
Inaccurate thought patterns that can contribute to a person's negative view of themselves and their circumstances.
Mood Regulation
The ability to modulate one's emotional state in response to various stimuli and situations.
