World Wide Web (WWW)
A collection of websites or web pages stored in web servers and connected to local computers through the internet.
Hypertext
Links that connect web pages, also known as hyperlinks.
Uniform Resource Locator (URL)
The address of a web page.
Website
A particular collection of web pages that belong to a specific URL.
Internet
A worldwide network of devices like computers, laptops, and tablets that enables users to send emails and chat online.
Web Server
A software program which serves the web pages requested by web users using a browser.
Client
The computer of a user who requests documents from a server.
Browser
A software installed on the user's computer that allows users to view retrieved documents.
Hypertext Markup Language (HTML)
A standard markup language used for creating web pages and organizing content such as headings, paragraphs, tables, and images.
Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP)
A protocol based on a client-server model that enables the WWW to work by transmitting requested web pages when a URL is entered.
Intranet
A private network contained within an enterprise used to securely share company information and computing resources among employees.
Extranet
A private network that enterprises use to provide trusted third parties, such as customers and suppliers, access to specific information without granting access to the entire network.
Electronic Data Interchange
A technology used in extranets for the ability to exchange large volumes of data.
Firewall
The mechanism by which security is enforced in intranets and extranets to separate networks.
