Acquisition
The initial stage of learning new response tendencies
Extinction
The weakening or disappearance of a conditioned response tendency
Spontaneous recovery
The reappearance of an extinguished response after a period on non exposure to the conditioned stimulus
Stimulus generalisation
When an organism has learned a new response to a specific stimulus and now responds in the same way to a new stimulus similar to the original stimulus
Stimulus discrimination
When an organism has learned a response to a specific stimulus and does not respond the same way to a new stimulus that is similar to the original stimulus
Higher order conditioning
New conditioned responses are built on the foundation of already established conditioned responses and many human conditioned responses fall under this realm
