Would you?
I suppose not. I’d kind of forgotten.
Did you ever hear so much talk about nothing
Well.. I guess they’re entitled….
A hole in his father
An awful way to kill your father-a knife in his chest.
If someone would trade
Take my chair
We’ll start with you
Oh well.. I just think he’s guilty. I thought it was obvious.
In what way was it obvious?
I mean that nobody have proved otherwise.
Everyone has
Well, sure- I’ve heard of it. I know what it is… I… what I ment…. Well… anyways… I think he’s guilty!
I’d vote not guilty
I don’t see what is
They’re clutching at straws
As guilty as they get-that’s the kid I suppose.
He’s a reasonable man
I guess so
Back up not guilty verdict
It’s hard, you know
Reasonable doubt really mean
What’s a reasonable doubt
Start knifing people
Not much doubt here
I really wonder why
You do hear stories about innocent men who have gone to jail or even death, sometimes- then years later things turn up.
I would think about ten seconds, perhaps.
About 10 seconds, yes.
That’s the testimony, Right?
Right
I don’t think he could have heard it.
Maybe the old man didn’t hear it. I mean with the el noise…
Is there anything else?
Cough drop?
No thank you
Cough drops, anyone want a cough drop?
He said twenty seconds
He said fifteen
I’d say it was twenty feet
Just about
We can spare that
I have
That’ll be the body falling.
We’ll time you from there
Okay I’m ready
I’m waiting for the hand to get to sixty
Stop
Right
What’s the time
Fifteen-twenty-thirty-thirty-five-thirty-nine seconds exactly
Number two (act 3 first scene)
Not guilty
I’d vote yes, we are a hung jury
No
Why did you change your mind
She- she seems so sure. And he has made a number of good points. While she- only gets mad and insults everybody.
..he thinks a murder is being turned loose
That’s true
Why don’t you time this one too?
All right
Stamp your foot when you want me to start
I want the hand to be at sixty.
Stop!
Twenty-yeah, twenty, twenty five-twenty nine- about twenty nine and an half second I say.
And this is by your own admission
That may be true, that the old man lies in part, but I think it will change my vote once more, guilty
Who got something constructive to say
Well, something’s been bothering me a little. The whole business about the stab wound and how it was made -the downward angle of it you know?
They went over it and over in court
I know he did but I don’t go along with it. The boys is 5’8” tall his father was 6’2” tall. That’s the difference of 6 inches. It’s a very awkward thing to stab down into the chest of someone who’s half a foot taller than you.
Okay, let it be more
LOOK OUT!
He has a right. Let her go ahead
Do you want me to this time too?
I’m sold on “reasonable doubt”
I think I am too
That was my feeling I don’t know the validity of the points that he has made. Shall we say that on one side of the tracks there is a doubt, but what can that on the side of the tracks is a doubt but what can you say about the story of the woman she saw it?
What time is it
Can’t you see the clock without your glasses?
Not clearly
Well, what do you all do when you wake up at night and want to know what time it is
I put my glasses on and look at the clock
Do you wear your glasses to bed?
Of course, not one person I know wear eyeglasses to bed.
