W1
I have a clear opening statement that introduces my approach to the question. (I do not start with a technique).
H1
I provide at least two quotations to support my argument.
H2
I identify and zoom-in on the writer’s choices (devices/techniques) in these quotes that produce a certain effect.
H3
I explore the effect of these choices. How does it make us feel? What does it indicate to us? What does it suggest? What can I infer?
H4
I explain HOW these effects are produced. I DO NOT explain what the quotes mean.
W2
I link all of my ideas back to the original question and my own point.
W3
I consider why the author has made these decisions (this could include context). It is NOT to make the reader want to read-on!
S1
I use paragraphs and discourse markers.
Deepening Understanding 1
I offer multiple/alternate explanations to prove my point.
Deepening understanding 2
I provide a counter argument but justify why this is not as strong as my overall argument.
Deepening understanding 3
I embed my quotations.
