Marbury v. Madison
Before John Adams' term ended, he nominated judges, but they weren't confirmed when Jefferson took office. Marbury, feeling entitled to the position, sued when Madison voided his commission. This case established judicial review, allowing courts to invalidate laws contradicting the Constitution, thus elevating the judiciary's power.
