Tell me about yourself
My name is Ruben. I’m a certified Med Technician who’s also gained Basic Life Support and BBP certs. I’m calm under pressure, detail-oriented, and love to work directly with people and contribute to their safety and well-being. I think Curtis Homes would be a great place to start my career in healthcare.
Why do you want to work in outpatient care?
Like I said earlier, I’ve always loved to work with people. Through my clinical training, I realized I do well in environments where I can actually make a difference in someone's safety and comfort. I know how it feels to be neglected and mistreated, and that’s why I treat everyone with love and respect inside and outside of work. Outpatient care feels like the right fit because it’s relationship-based, and lets me apply my skills in a meaningful way.
How do you handle a stressful or high-pressure situation?
I work well under pressure, I stay focused on the task at hand. During my phlebotomy externship, I worked with anxious patients & Classmates and had to stay calm and professional regardless of the pressure. Same thing with working in a fast-paced environment at Taco Bell — I learned to prioritize by importance and not let the chaos affect my quality of care or work.
Do you have experience with medication administration?
"My experience is currently training-based. I haven't administered medications in a live setting yet, but I take the responsibility seriously and I'm ready to apply that training under proper supervision."
How do you ensure client safety and dignity?
I follow company protocols closely — infection control, proper documentation, safety checks — but I also pay attention to how clients feel. People notice when you treat them with respect, and I treat everyone with respect and dignity inside and outside the workplace
Tell me about a time you worked as part of a team
At Taco Bell, we ran a high-volume kitchen where everyone had to communicate and cover for each other constantly. If one person fell behind the whole team was affected by it. I learned to stay aware of what those around me needed and stepped in to help without being asked and I’d treat team care in a medical setting the same.
What are your weaknesses?
I gotta build more hours in a clinical care setting — most of my experience comes from training and externship. But I'm a fast learner, I take direction well, and I'm motivated to grow. I see this as a great opportunity to gain more clinical experience and improve.
Where do you see yourself in a few years?
I’d like to grow within the care field — potentially pursuing further certifications or moving into a more advanced clinical role. But right now my focus is on becoming excellent at the fundamentals and being someone my team and patients can rely on.
