Photosynthesis
The process by which green plants and some other organisms use sunlight to synthesize foods with the help of chlorophyll.
Chlorophyll
The green pigment found in plants that is essential for photosynthesis.
Cellular Respiration
The process in which cells convert glucose and oxygen into energy, carbon dioxide, and water.
Aerobic
Describing processes that require oxygen.
Anaerobic
Describing processes that occur without oxygen.
ATP
Adenosine triphosphate, the energy currency of the cell.
Mitochondria
Organelles known as the powerhouse of the cell, where ATP is produced.
Ecosystem
A biological community interacting with its physical environment.
Biodiversity
The variety of life in the world or in a particular habitat or ecosystem.
Food Chain
A linear sequence of organisms through which nutrients and energy pass as one organism eats another.
Sustainable Development
Development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.
