abstract
introduction
method
results
discussion

whats the abstract section
first section of scientific report;
short summary that includes all major elements e.g. aims/hypothesis/method/procedure/results/conclusions
abt 150-200 words in length
whats the introduction section
a literature review of the general area of research;
details relevant theories/concepts that are related to the current study
whats the method section
includes sufficient detail for other researchers to precisely replicate the study
split into subsections;
design e.g. independent grps/naturalisitic observation etc with reasons/justification given for your choice
sample - info related to ppl involved in study (how many/biological/demographic info/sampling method/target population
apparatus/materiels - detail of any assessment instructions
procedure - list of everything that happened in the investigation (includes everything was said to p’s (briefing/debriefing)
ethics - explanation of how these were addressed in study
whats the results section
summarised key findings from investigation;
features descriptive statistics e.g tables/graphs/charts etc
includes inferential statistics with reference to choice of statistical test, calculated/critical values and level of significance and final outcome
whats the discussion section
findings summarised verbally;
these are discussed in context of the evidence and other research that may be considered relevant
limitations of present investigation are discussed and how these will be addressed in future studies
consider real world applications and contribution (implications)
whats the referencing section
includes full details of any source of material citied in the report
journal references follows format of;
author, date, article title, journal name (italics), volume, page numbers
book referencing;
author, date, title of book (italics),place of publication, publisher
