Procreation means reproduction. Families provide a unit for the introduction of new members into society.

Funtion 2 (Socialisation)
Socialisation deals with developing
an attitude in children that encourages them to make a useful contribution in society. Families provides for the socialisation of it's members.

What is a Nuclear Family?
A family consisting of parents who are married or are in a consensual union, living together in the same household with children who are biological

adopted.

What is an Extended Family?
A family typically consisting of three generations
of the same family (Grandparents, Parents and Children) living in the same household.

A family where both parents are absent and the older sibling cares for the younger sibling(s).

A family where only one parent is in close everyday

Explain Identity Crisis.
As the expectations regarding family roles change, the tradtional male and female roles are challanged reseulting in an identity crisis.
Explain Male Marginalisation.
This occurs as society becomes less dependent on men and more opportunities which were once exclusively mascline become open to women.
Explain the Development of female confidence, self-esteem and independence.
Females in the Caribbean have gained a sense of independence as the changing societal expectations and increased job opportunities, which has allowed them to earn a income and become self reliant, has improved female self esteem and confidence.
Explain Role conflict.
Role conflict occurs when performing one role conflicts with performing another. Such as a woman's role as breadwinner may conflict her role as caregiver.

It is now accepted for women to work and receive equal pay and employment rights to men.
Choice of employment.
Many traditionally male or female roles are now open to both genders.
Available technology
1) Technology means people can work from home, making it easier to juggle work and family life.
2) Appliances and services have made housework easier and quicker, allowing more free time.
Leisure activities
With more time and money, women have more
opportunities for leisure activities
Educational opportunities.
1. Males and females enjoy equal education and schooling.
2. The internet has made it easier to access education and develop careers.

Physical
A woman's body must be mature enough to carry a baby through pregnancy and to give birth. As well as being physically mature, parents need to be healthy. A pregnant woman needs to maintain a health and fitness regime. Being a new parent is physically demanding and potentially stressful.
Economic
A couple must provide financially for their child throughout its life. Food, clothing and educational needs all need to be paid for. Large expenses such as new accommodation and a car may also be necessary
Emotional and Psychological readiness
New parents must accept the numerous demands of having a child. They will be required to make sacrifices and changes to their lifestyle and to put their child's
needs before their own.
Obtaining knowledge and skills
The experience they gained while growing up will influence the type of parent someone
becomes.
