Clean Air Act (CAA)

Regulates air emissions from stationary and mobile sources. Aims to improve air quality and protect public health and the environment by setting limits on pollutants like CO2, SO2, NOx, and particulate matter.

Clean Water Act (CWA)

Establishes the structure for regulating discharges of pollutants into U.S. waters. Its goal is to restore and maintain the chemical, physical, and biological integrity of water bodies.

Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA)

Protects public drinking water supplies by setting standards for contaminants in tap water and overseeing states, localities, and water suppliers.

Endangered Species Act (ESA)

Protects species at risk of extinction and their habitats. It prohibits harming listed species and supports conservation and recovery efforts.

CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora)

International agreement regulating trade in endangered animals and plants to ensure it does not threaten their survival in the wild.

CERCLA (Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act) - Superfund

Creates a program for cleaning up contaminated hazardous waste sites and holds responsible parties liable for cleanup costs.

Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA)

Manages the disposal of solid and hazardous waste from generation to final disposal, emphasizing safe handling and reducing waste production.

Montreal Protocol

International treaty designed to phase out substances that deplete the ozone layer, such as CFCs, to protect atmospheric ozone.

Kyoto Protocol

International agreement aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions to combat global climate change, primarily targeting developed countries.

Delaney Clause (Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act)

Prohibits the approval of any food additive shown to cause cancer in humans or animals, enforcing strict food safety standards
