Biuret Test
Used to test for proteins.
Biuret Test Color Change
Turns colorless solutions purple in presence of proteins, and remains blue if no protein is present.
Biuret Test Process
Add Biuret reagent to the sample and observe color change.
Benedict's Test
Used to test for reducing sugars.
Benedict's Test Color Change
Changes from blue to green, yellow, or brick red depending on the sugar concentration. Remains blue if no reducing sugars are present.
Benedict's Test Process
Mix the sample with Benedict's reagent and heat in a boiling water bath.
Ethanol Test
Used to test for lipids.
Ethanol Test Color Change
When lipid is present, a white emulsion forms; no change occurs in the absence of lipids.

Mix the sample with ethanol, then add water and observe for emulsion.
Iodine Test
Used to test for starch.

Turns blue-black when starch is present and remains brown if no starch is present.

Add iodine solution to the sample and observe color change.

Used to test for Vitamin C.

Blue DCPIP turns colorless when Vitamin C is present; remains blue if no Vitamin C is present.
