binocular

control
testing of machines and testing kits in the laboratory to detect any deficiencies prior to testing patient specimens.

withdrawal; to remove; to make empty.
extinguishers

high-power field (hpf)
refers to microscope lens.
low-power field (lpf)
refers to microscope lens.
magnify
to make something look larger than it really is.
minute
very small, tiny.
monocular
possessing a single eyepiece, as with a microscope.
ocular
eyepiece of a microscope.
physician’s office laboratory (POL)
a designated room in the physician’s office where laboratory procedures and tests are performed by qualified persons.
point-of-care testing (POCT)
testing performed outside of a laboratory (such as at the bedside or near the site of patient care) that produces a rapid and reliable result.
proficient
well advanced in an art, occupation, skill, or branch of knowledge; unusually knowledgeable.
provider-performed microscopy procedures (PPMP)
refers to microscopic procedures done in the physician’s office laboratory.
quality assurance (QA)
inclusive policies, procedures, and practices as standards for reliable laboratory results that includes documentation, calibration, and maintenance of all equipment, quality control, proficiency testing, and training.
quality control (QC)
inclusive laboratory procedures as standards to provide reliable performance of equipment, including test control samples, documentation, and analyzing statistics for diagnostic tests.
safety data sheets (SDSs)
provide information about working with or handling a particular chemical substance.
stage
has two clips that hold the specimen slide to be viewed.
waived
laboratory testing that is simple in nature and nonthreatening to the patient if performed or interpreted incorrectly.
