Pentagon Sign
Indicates a School Zone.
Vertical Rectangle Sign
Used for Regulatory or Guide information.
Octagon Sign
Indicates a Stop sign.
Horizontal Rectangle Sign
Used for Directions or Information.
Triangle Sign
Indicates Yield.
Round Sign
Indicates a Railroad Crossing Warning.
Pennant (Flag Triangle) Sign
Indicates No Passing.
Diamond Sign
Indicates a Warning.
Broken Lines
Indicates that a driver may pass with CAUTION.
Solid Lines
Indicates that a driver should not cross.
Yellow Lines
Indicates Two-way traffic.
White Lines
Indicates One-way traffic.
Double Solid Yellow Line
Indicates Two-way traffic where passing is not allowed.
Driver's License Age Requirement
You must be at least 16 years and 3 months old.
Learner's Permit Duration
You must hold a learner's permit for at least 9 months before obtaining a license.
Parental Certification Requirement
Applicants under 18 must have parental certification of 45 hours of driving, with at least 15 of those hours occurring after sunset.
Vertical License
The orientation of a driver's license for individuals under the age of 21.
Horizontal License
The orientation of a driver's license for individuals 21 years of age or older.
Administrative License Suspension (ALS)
A minimum 7-day suspension for registering a BAC of 0.08 or higher, or refusing a field sobriety test.
Zero Tolerance Law
A law for drivers under age 21 who register a BAC of 0.02 or higher.
Implied Consent Law
The law associated with refusing to take a field sobriety test, resulting in a license suspension.
BGE Method
Standing for Blindzone-Glare-Elimination, it is a method for setting side view mirrors.
Antilock Braking System (ABS)
A system that allows maximum stopping force without locking up the brakes or skidding.
STOMP, STAY, STEER
The three-step process for using ABS: firmly depress the brake pedal, stay on the brakes without pumping, and steer where you want to go.
Line-of-sight
The visible path of travel from your vehicle to the target area.
Speed Limit
The maximum legal speed you can travel on a road under ideal conditions.
Pitch
A vehicle weight shift that moves FORWARD and BACK.
Roll
A vehicle weight shift that moves SIDE to SIDE.
Yaw
A condition where the vehicle's rear tires lose traction and weight shifts to one side, also known as a 'fishtail'.
Even Expressway Numbers
Expressway routes (e.g., I−64, I−66) that go EAST-WEST.
Odd Expressway Numbers
Expressway routes (e.g., I−77, I−81, I−95) that go NORTH-SOUTH.
Weave Lane
A lane that serves as both an ENTRANCE and an EXIT lane.
Apex
The middle point of a curve where a driver should gradually accelerate out.
Alternator/Generator Light
A warning light indicating the vehicle's electrical system is malfunctioning and the engine must use electricity from the battery.
Uncontrolled Intersection Rule
If two vehicles arrive at the same time, the driver on the LEFT must yield to the driver on the RIGHT.
