What are the Sacroiliac joints responsible for?
They are responsible for the connection between the ilium and the sacrum and allow for limited motion.
What is the Iliac Bone?
It is one of the three bones that make up the pelvis, providing structure and support.
What is the Coccyx also known as?
The Tailbone.
What does anterior rotation of the ilium relative to the sacrum represent?
Extension.
What does posterior rotation of the ilium relative to the sacrum represent?
Flexion.
What does SI motion describe?
The motion induced by full femoro-acetabular flexion and extension.
Define Left SI Flexion.
Posterior or backward rotation of the left ilium on the sacrum.
Define Right SI Extension.
Anterior or forward rotation of the right ilium on the sacrum.
What does PSIS stand for?
Posterior Superior Iliac Spine.
What happens if there is no anterior rotation of the ilium on the sacrum?
It indicates an extension restriction of the SI joint.
What is the Gonstead designation for an ilium stuck in flexion?
PI ilium.
What term describes an ilium stuck in extension?
AS ilium.
How does motion terminology differ from static terminology?
Motion terminology can be assigned without misalignment, while static terminology always correlates to a misalignment.
What is Nutation?
Anterior and inferior movement of the sacral base.
What is Counternutation?
Posterior and superior movement of the sacral base.
What is the static terminology for a sacrum fixed in nutation?
AI sacrum.
What is the static terminology for a sacrum fixed in counter-nutation?
PS sacrum.
What is lumbosacral extension associated with?
Sacral nutation.
What is lumbosacral flexion associated with?
Sacral counternutation.
Define internal rotation of the SI joint.
When the PSIS moves towards the midline.
Define external rotation of the SI joint.
When the PSIS moves away from the midline.
What is the meaning of EX ilium?
Stuck in external rotation.
What is the meaning of IN ilium?
Stuck in internal rotation.
What indicates an extension restriction in the sacrum?
AI sacrum.
What indicates a flexion restriction in the sacrum?
PS sacrum.
What does sacral motion during gait resemble?
A gyroscopic figure 8 movement.
What are the proposed axes of motion in the sacroiliac articulation?
Left and Right Oblique Axes.
What facilitates rotation around the left oblique axis?
Contacting the left oblique axis area.
What facilitates counter-rotation around the right oblique axis?
Contacting the right oblique axis area.
What is the term for the condition where both sacral bases rotate around their respective axes?
Oblique Axis motion.
What does SI Internal Rotation Malposition refer to?
Motion is restricted in internal rotation, categorized as IN ilium.
What does SI External Rotation Malposition refer to?
Motion is restricted in external rotation, categorized as EX ilium.
What is the summary of overall motion and static terminologies in relation to sacroiliac joints?
These terminologies describe various restrictions and malpositions of the ilium and sacrum.
