Pesticide Label
The most important document when applying a pesticide, legally considered the law.
WSDA
Washington State Department of Agriculture; the agency that administers pesticide licensing in Washington.
Restricted Use Pesticide (RUP)
A pesticide that can only be used by certified applicators or under their supervision.
Pesticide Application Records
Documents that record legal and proper pesticide use.
PPE
Personal Protective Equipment used to protect the applicator from exposure.
Dermal Exposure
The most common route of pesticide exposure, occurring through the skin.
DANGER
The signal word on a pesticide label indicating the highest level of toxicity.
WARNING
The signal word on a pesticide label indicating moderate toxicity.
CAUTION
The signal word on a pesticide label indicating lower toxicity.
Respirator
A properly fitted device that protects applicators from inhaling pesticides.
SDS
Safety Data Sheet; a document containing health and emergency information.
Agricultural Worker Training Frequency
Safety training that must be provided to workers at least every 12 months.
Pesticide Drift
The movement of pesticide away from the target site, often increased by strong winds.
Runoff
Pesticide movement away from the target site in water.
Three C's of Spill Response
The procedure for responding to a spill: Control, Contain, and Clean up.
Active Ingredient
The specific ingredient in a pesticide that controls the pest.
Directions for Use
The section of a pesticide label that explains how to apply the product.
Misuse of Pesticide
Using a pesticide in any manner contrary to its label directions.
