Percent Yield
The ratio of the actual yield to the theoretical yield, expressed as a percentage.
Theoretical Yield
The maximum amount of product that can be produced in a chemical reaction based on the reactants used.
Limiting Reagent
The reactant that is completely consumed in a chemical reaction, limiting the amount of product formed.
Actual Yield
The amount of product that is actually produced when the reaction is carried out.
Empirical Formula
The simplest whole-number ratio of elements in a compound.
Molecular Formula
The actual number of atoms of each element in a molecule of a compound.
Excess Reactant
The reactant that remains after a chemical reaction has gone to completion.
Stoichiometry
The calculation of quantities in chemical reactions based on balanced equations.
Chemical Reaction
A process that leads to the transformation of one set of chemical substances to another.
Balanced Equation
An equation that shows that the number of atoms of each element is the same on both sides of the reaction.
