Pre-labor signs
Signs indicating that labor may soon begin, such as lightening, low back ache, vaginal discharge, and others.
False labor
Characterized by no cervical changes, irregular contractions, and discomfort located at the front.
True labor
Characterized by cervical dilation, effacement, and progressively regular contractions.
Stage I: Dilation/effacement
The first stage of labor, subdivided into latent, active, and transition phases.
Latent phase
The early phase of labor (0-3 cm dilated) with mild contractions.
Active phase
Phase of labor (4-7 cm dilated) with moderate to strong contractions.
Transition phase
Final phase of stage I labor (8-10 cm dilated) with strong, overwhelming contractions.
