Xian Mao (Curculiginis Rhizoma)
A hot and toxic herb used to vigorously warm Ming Men Fire and Kidney Yang; described as the herbal version of "shock paddles" for stubborn Yang Xu.
Du Zhong (Eucommiae Cortex)
A herb that tonifies the Liver and Kidneys, strengthens sinews and bones, and quiets the fetus; salt-frying (Yan Shui Chao) can increase its potency by up to 100%.
Gou Ji (Cibotii Rhizoma)
Known as "dog's spine," this Bitter and Sweet herb tonifies Liver and Kidney to expel Wind, Damp, and Cold, specifically addressing stiffness and soreness in the spine.
Xu Duan (Dipsaci Radix)
Meaning "Reconnect what is Broken," this herb tonifies Liver and Kidney, invigorates Blood, and is famously used for trauma, connecting sinews and bones, and calming the fetus.
Gu Sui Bu (Drynariae Rhizoma)
Commonly called the "mender of shattered bones," it tonifies Kidneys, repairs bones, treats tinnitus by directing floating Yang down, and can be used topically for hair growth.
Tu Si Zi (Cuscutae Semen)
A Neutral herb that warms Primal Yang and nourishes Yin without being cloying; it is excellent for Kidney Yang related leakage, vision issues, and diarrhea due to Spleen and Kidney Xu.
Sha Yuan Zi (Astragali Complanati Semen)
Also known as "the singing sea man," this herb tonifies Liver and Kidneys to secure Essence and brighten the eyes; it is notably tolerable for elderly patients or those with sensitive digestion.
Zi He Che (Hominis Placenta)
Translates to "purple river vehicle," this herb warms Kidney Yang and tonifies Lung and Kidney Qi; it is used for postpartum exhaustion, infertility, and steaming bone (with Gui Ban and Huang Bai).
Hai Shen (Stichopus)
A salty and warm sea cucumber used to tonify Kidney Yang and nourish Blood; it is moistening and suitable for patients with concurrent Yin Xu.
Hai Ma / Hai Long (Hippocampus)
Marine herbs used to fortify Kidney Yang for male impotence; also used to invigorate blood and decrease the pain and strain of childbirth.
Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix)
The primary herb for Qi deficiency that generates fluid and calms a deficient Shen; it is indicated for minute, weak pulses and prolapse.
Dang Shen (Codonopsis Radix)
Known as "poor man's ginseng," it is safe for long-term use to tonify Qi but does NOT generate fluids like Ren Shen does.
Huang Qi (Astragali Radix)
A Qi tonic that raises Clear Yang, promotes the healing of flesh or discharge of pus, and is used for wasting and thirsting disorder.
Shu Di Huang (Rehmanniae Radix Preparata)
A cloying Blood tonic that tonifies the Liver, Kidney, and Heart; used for "5 Delay," premature aging, and impotence.
Dang Gui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix)
The "blood moving herb" within the Tonify Blood category, widely used for gynecological issues and constipation.
Mai Men Dong (Ophiopogonis Radix)
A Yin tonic that targets the Heart, Lung, and Stomach; it is well-tolerated and helps to calm the Shen.
Lu Rong (Cervi Cornu Pantorichum)
A very powerful Yang tonic that affects the Chong, Ren, Dai, and Du vessels; used for severe Kidney Yang deficiency and infertility.
Rou Cong Rong (Cistanches Herba)
A Yang tonic that "floats the boat" by moistening the Intestines to treat deficiency-related constipation.
Xian Mao Dosage
3-9g; do not exceed 12g per day and avoid contact with iron or steel.
Zi He Che Dosage
2-3g; often used in lower granule amounts such as 0.25g.
