Conductive Hearing Loss
Hearing loss caused by problems in the outer or middle ear that prevent sound vibrations from reaching the inner ear properly.
Otitis Media
A middle-ear infection in which the middle ear fills with mucus or fluid.
Otosclerosis
Abnormal growth of the middle-ear bones, usually around the oval window near the stapes, which interferes with sound transmission.
Sensorineural Hearing Loss
Hearing loss caused by damage to the cochlea or auditory nerve (AN).
Metabolic Hearing Loss
Hearing loss caused by the stria vascularis not properly providing the cochlea with the nutrients and ions it needs.
Presbycusis
Age-related hearing loss, usually involving changes in the inner ear.
