Theos
Greek term meaning 'God'.
Logos
Greek term meaning 'word' or 'idea'.
Systematic Theology
An orderly, coherent study of the principal doctrines of the Bible, answering what the whole Bible teaches about a given topic.
General Revelation
God makes Himself known through creation, conscience, and providence.
Special Revelation
God discloses Himself and His redemptive work through Jesus Christ in special ways.
Sola Gratia
Grace Alone; our justification and salvation are solely by the sovereign grace of God.
Solus Fide
Faith Alone; our justification before God is through faith in Christ, not by works.
Sola Christus
Christ Alone; Jesus Christ is the sole mediator between God and man.
Sola Scriptura
Scripture Alone; the Bible is the only infallible and sufficient rule for governing issues of life and doctrine.
Soli Deo Gloria
The Glory of God Alone; all glory and honor are due to God alone.
Creeds
Written statements summarizing essential beliefs, used for teaching and defending the faith.
Apostles Creed
An early statement of Christian belief summarizing the apostles' teachings.
Nicene Creed
A profession of faith adopted by the Council of Nicaea, affirming key Christian doctrines.
Natural Revelation vs. Special Revelation
Natural revelation is God's self-disclosure through nature; special revelation is through His redemptive actions, primarily in Jesus Christ.
Biblical Exegesis
The critical interpretation and explanation of biblical texts.
Doxologically
In a manner that glorifies God; studying theology to know, love, and worship God.
The Task of Theology
Engaging in theology biblically, rationally, humbly, and doxologically.
