Clean Air Act
Comprehensive federal law that regulates all sources of air emissions
Clean Water Act
US federal law that regulates the discharge of pollutants into the nation's surface waters(lakes, rivers, streams, wetlands, and coastal areas)
CITES
International agreement between governments to ensure that international trade in wild animals and planted does not threaten survival of the species
Cercla/Superfund
A law that created a tax on industries so that a trust fund could be used for cleanup of abandoned hazardous waste sites
Montreal Protocol
A global agreement that asked for the phasing out of ozone depleting substances like cfcs
Kyoto Protocol
A UN initiative in 1997 that asked nations to reduce greenhouse emissions to agree upon targets. The US dropped out in 2001. The Paris Climate Accord in 2015 strengthened global response. There are several nations, including the US who are backing out or have not ratified.
Endangered Species Act
Conserves and protects endangered and threatened species and their habitats
Safe Drinking Water Act
Protects the quality of drinking water in the Us. The law focuses on all water that could be used for drinking(groundwater or surface water)
Delaney Clause of Food, Drug, and Cosmetics Act
If a substance is found to cause cancer in man or animal, then it cannot be used as a food additive
RCRA(Cradle to Grave)
The generation, transportation, treatment, storage, and disposal of hazardous waste requires a detailed plan of action prior to the manufacturing of a good.
