Southwest Asia
A region that lies at the crossroads of Africa, Europe, and Asia, characterized by diverse topography.
Central Asia
A region of treeless plains and deserts located in the center of the Eurasian landmass.
Mediterranean Sea
The sea that marks the meeting point of Africa, Europe, and Asia.
Caspian Sea
The world's largest inland body of water, located between Europe and Asia.
Arabian Peninsula
The largest peninsula in the world, covering more than 1 million square miles.
Tigris-Euphrates Valley
One of the most fertile river valleys in the ancient world, located in Southwest Asia.
Dead Sea
The lowest place on Earth, located between Israel and Jordan, known for its extreme salinity.
Hindu Kush
A mountain range that includes some of the highest peaks in the world, located in Central Asia.
Desert scrub
Vegetation mainly consisting of small trees and shrubs that can survive long periods without rain.
Arid climate
A climate characterized by receiving less than 10 inches of precipitation a year.
Semiarid climate
A climate that receives some rainfall but is still dry overall.
Persian Gulf
An arm of the sea that is partly surrounded by land, crucial for shipping and maritime trade.
Anatolia Plateau
A rugged region in Central Asia that stretches across modern Turkey, characterized by its moonscapes.
Fairy chimneys
Strange shapes carved by erosion in volcanic regions, common in some areas of Southwest Asia.
Rub' al Khali
Also known as the Empty Quarter, it is a vast desert in the Arabian Peninsula.
Elevation profile
The variation in height across an area, highlighting the differences in physical geography.
Inland sea
A large body of salt water with little or no connection to the ocean.
Saxaul tree
A type of tree native to Central Asia, known for its drought resistance and utility for firewood.
Chaparral
A type of vegetation zone consisting of small trees and bushes adapted to a Mediterranean climate.
Mixed forest
Forest areas containing both deciduous and coniferous trees.
Temperate grassland

Desert regions that experience cold temperatures due to high altitude or distance from the equator.
Aral Sea
Once a large inland sea in Central Asia, now rapidly shrinking due to diversion of rivers.

The second highest mountain in the world, located in the Karakoram range of the Himalayas.
Cascading mountains
Mountains that rise steeply, creating rugged landscapes common in Central Asia.
Climate zones
Different climatic areas defined by their temperature and precipitation patterns.
Moonscapes
Landscapes that appear barren and desolate due to erosion and volcanic activity.
Gulf of Oman
A gulf in the Arabian Sea that separates the Arabian Peninsula from Iran.
Great Salt Desert
Also known as Dasht-e Kavir, it's a vast desert in Iran characterized by salt flats.

The process by which plants modify their structure and function to survive in dry conditions.
Inland seas
