Drug Action:

  • minimizes increase in blood sugar by:

    • increasing sensitivity of insulin receptors on the cells.

    • Inhibits glucose production by liver & decreases intestinal absorption of glucose→OK to skip meal

Side Effects:

  • GI: bloating, diarrhea, N/V

  • F&E: lactic acidosis
