Ethene molecule (CH4)
A molecule that has two carbon atoms bonded by a double covalent bond and four hydrogen atoms singly bonded to each carbon atom.
Double bond
A bond consisting of one signa ili bond and one på bond.
sp" bybridization
The type of hybridization shown by each doubly bonded carbon atom in the ethene molecule.
signa ili bond (C−C)
A bond between two carbon atoms formed by the head-on overlap of sp" vidand orbitals; it is difficult to broke due to a strong hú pár electrom.
på bond
A bond between two carbon atoms formed by the sideways overlap of an unhybridized "p" orbital on each carbon, where the electrons are weakly held.
signa ili bands (C−H)
The two bonds each carbon atom in ethene forms with hydrogen atoms by sp" orbitals overlap.
Planar molecule
A molecule, such as ethene, in which all the atoms lie in the same plane.
