Oracle of Delphi
A priestess known as the Pythia who provided prophecies in Ancient Greece.
Pythia
The name given to the Oracle of Delphi, often a middle-aged woman.
Omphalos
A term meaning 'navel,' used by the Greeks to describe Delphi as the center of the world.
Apollo
The Greek god associated with the Oracle of Delphi, who was believed to speak through the Oracle.
Three-legged tripod
The platform on which the Oracle of Delphi sat to deliver prophecies.
Cleansing ritual
The process a petitioner must undergo, including bathing and sacrificing a goat to Apollo, before asking a question.
