Gene
A specific sequence of bases in a DNA molecule that codes for a polypeptide, which gives a trait.
Allele
A different version of the same gene (e.g. the gene for eye colour can produce different colours).
Loci
The fixed position of an allele on a chromosome.
Genotype
An organism’s complete set of genetic information, including all of its specific alleles.
Phenotype
The expression of an organism’s genetic information and the interaction of this information with the environment.
Dominant allele
This allele will always be expressed on the phenotype if present in the genotype.
Recessive allele
This allele will only be expressed on the phenotype if two copies of it are present in the genotype.
Codominant alleles
The expression of two different alleles from the genotype on the phenotype, as both alleles are dominant.
Homozygous
An organism has two copies of the same allele of a gene in its genotype.
Heterozygous
An organism has two different alleles of a certain gene.
Carry out mono hybrid practice
…
What is codominance?
When to alleles are equally dominant to each other so when both alleles are present in the genotype of an organism, they will both be expressed in the phenotype equally.
